One of Turlock's most human stories this month came from its animal-services community. Bella, a small shih tzu mix found in poor condition with non-functioning back legs, became the focus of a local rescue effort that included helping her regain mobility.
Not every worthwhile local story needs conflict. Sometimes the strongest community story is simply people deciding an animal deserves another chance.
Those are the stories regional feeds often lose—and exactly the kind of thing a local newspaper should preserve.
