Starting Sunday, Sept. 27, the vehicle gates at Memorial Park will close at 7 p.m. on Sundays instead of 9 p.m.
The city says the change is meant to deter illegal parking-lot takeovers and street racing that have damaged park property. Vehicles must be out before the gates close, and pedestrians and cyclists can still enter after 7 p.m. The change applies only to Sundays.
Police and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services coordinated the move, part of broader safety efforts that include new lighting, security gates and wireless cameras.
