Monday, Oct. 5, is Frances Xavier Cabrini Day, a Colorado state holiday.
The Colorado Judicial Branch says all state courts and probation offices are closed that day. State government offices are closed as well. Federal offices and post offices keep normal hours, and retail stores and the stock market are open; banks and schools may close, so check locally.
Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850–1917), known as Mother Cabrini, was the first U.S. citizen to be canonized, in 1946. She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and established dozens of institutions serving Italian immigrants. She has ties to Colorado through orphanages in Denver and the Mother Cabrini Shrine in Golden. Holiday-reference site Public Holidays Hub reports Colorado adopted the observance in 2020, in place of Columbus Day.
